Most of us have probably seen these disks advertised on the auction or classified sites around the Net. We wondered what could possibly be on the disk that would cause such a commotion which ultimately resulted in it being banned for sale in some countries. Well, now you can stop wondering. Here we reveal the secrets behind these disks and what all the fuss is about. We paid $20.00 (US) for the disk, which is about average going by the online auction bidding. Basically what we received was a generic CDR disk with 'B' hand-written on it, and with 168 MB of data burned onto it. An index page taken from the disk can be found here. If you had a chance to browse that huge list of items, you could be forgiven for thinking that this disk must indeed contain some real gems. Well, yes and no. Depending on what you are looking for, and depending on whether your browser can read it, are the things that will determine how happy you are with your new disk. We can read only around 70% of the data on this disk. The rest appears to be in another language. Just which one we aren't entirely sure. We tried using different language encoding in our browsers but still didn't have any luck, which is a pity, as a lot of the information could be very interesting. There are literally thousands of links on the disk. Most of the information can of course be gathered from different sites on the Internet, there is nothing really new. As far as being 'controversial' or 'dangerous', we have to disappoint you. There is some questionable material (as far as adult-oriented sites, anti-government sites and anarchy-type sites), but on the whole nothing that would really constitute banning the disk. There are some bomb making pages, which look, to the uninitiated, quite complex and comprehensive, but on closer inspection appear to be rather amateur. Our guess is that the only one being blown up with these bombs would be the person attempting to make them! There are no doubt better sites for this kind of stuff out there. So, after a few hours of browsing our disk, we can safely say that the whole 'banned' thing is more marketing savvy than anything else. No doubt the person involved came up with the idea after noticing that banned movies and songs seem to go to Number 1 pretty smartly. There is no doubt that there is a huge amount of information on the disk, however, it all depends on where your interests lie whether you would gain any real insights from it. Thanks for joining us. We hope you enjoyed this exposé. If you would like to reveal something on our pages then please feel free to contact us here and share it with us. Secrets You Should Know.
